Recent field expeditions show that not all these protected areas are connected by properly demarcated and well managed corridors through which these species could migrate easily.
Recent killings of these species trying to migrate through porous corridors have scared most the species to remain in their respective protected areas.
This project will determine the distribution and migratory patterns of the sub-populations of Forest Elephants and Cross River Gorillas in the corridors; establish and manage High Conservation Value Forests and Community Forests within the corridors; raise awareness on the importance of managing natural resources in the corridors and promote alternatives to unsustainable natural resources use by communities adjacent to the corridors.
This particular project, if well implemented through the above parameters with different activities, will go a long way in linking the sub-populations of Forest Elephants and Cross River Gorillas in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. This will span for the next five years and will cost for long-term linkage of the sub-populations, 842519 GBP.
The role of Forest Elephants and Cross River Gorillas cannot be over-emphasized. Inbreeding amongst these isolated populations might result in the extinction of these populations in the Southwest Region. Be part of this measure against inbreeding and extinction of these important biodiversity species and invest for posterity.
