ERuDeF’s Education program is categorised into three main components; Outreach Community Education, School Education and Professional Development. The main goal of the program is to train, educate, sensitize, build skills and raise awareness on proactive environmental friendly actions in order to save the natural environment, threatened wildlife species, their habitats and fragile landscapes from total destruction and ensuring a sustainable development.

(i)Outreach Education

It is focused primarily on raising awareness and building sustainable managerial skills on the conservation of biodiversity species and their habitats. The component works with different stakeholders including the administration, technical Ministries, communities and media to deliver the programme. The component also collaborates with the Forests and Climate Change and Livelihoods and Economic Development Programmes to reach its goals.

(ii) Outreach Education

It is intended to contribute to the society by making the young generation more conscious and aware of issues related to nature and the environment with target on primary, secondary and high school students. This helps to enhance and increase students’ skills and knowledge thus creating a generation with high sensitivity towards wildlife conservation and building a new generation of conservation experts.

In order to improve the quality of the education being delivered and finally improved students outputs, ERuDeF launched in 2011, the Environmental Education Development Fund. The School Fund is helping to support the rehabilitation of the school infrastructure, hygiene infrastructure, equip school libraries, support the school needs of the intelligent but less economically favour students, etc

(iii) Professional Development

The professional development program targets graduates, prospective job seekers and early to mid-career professionals in the field of conservation and development. The professional expertise and experience that will enable them to gain professionally qualified jobs. It employs the hands-on experiential learning approach for its field training programs and a number of training seminar series. Through this they gain professional, vocational, capacity building and creative thinking skills in the fields of biodiversity management, restoration, non-profit management. The professional development program is also focusing on training and building capacity of civil capacity organizations (Associations, Common Interest Groups, Cooperatives, NGOs, etc) in achieving longterm development. This program is also focusing on career development of the next generation of conservation and development leaders.

ERuDeF’s professional development program is being managed by ERuDeF/Institute of Biodiversity and Non-profit Studies (IBiNS). IBiNS runs a series of programmes including i) a post graduate biodiversity management and non-profit research programmes, ii) A Gap Year Biodiversity management and non-profit programme, iii) Center for Conservation Education, iv) NGO Training Center, v) Environmental Journalism and vi) Career Development Center.

Besides these, the Institute will also run a number of seminar series and notably the Primates Conservation Seminar Series.
