Any access or use of genetic resources must take place with an approval or Prior Informed Consent (PIC) of the country hosting the genetic resource (s). Also, the conditions for access or use of genetic resources, including how resulting benefits would be shared, must be agreed upon in what is called the Mutually Agreed Terms (MAT).
